Ultimate Comics: Spider-man #17
Yet another issue of everybody’s new favorite Ultimate Spider-man, Miles Morales! We’re still knee deep in the “United We Stand” story arc and I’m going to be brutally honest with everyone here: I don’t really like it. I’m not saying its a bad story arc, its actually pretty interesting, but it really seems like the danger is lost without the other Ultimate comics.
I understand there’s a war and the country is dividing itself and all the other things that are explained on the first page, but what doesn’t translate is the urgency. The urgency of the entire story. I understand Miles’ story, and it keeps me on the edge of my seat, but I just wish there was a bigger picture to occasionally draw from.

Planetoid #4
Back with another issue of one of my favorite indie books. This comic is great and entirely done by one man, gotta give the guy credit, Ken Garing you rock.
The story is starting to unfold a bit more in this issue. All the characters have been introduced and now the adventure is underway. With a threat revealed and answer waiting to be found that means only one thing; epicness is coming.
I seriously can’t wait for the next issue, and I hope that more of those frog people show up, they’re my favorite.

Before Watchmen: Minutemen #2
When I first read Watchmen one thing that I always felt was that they should make this story. In fact, one character that stood out was Hooded Justice and what really happened to him. I mean to say, how did he end up the way he did?
I feel like this comic touches on some pretty adult themes while keeping it censored enough that the masses can still enjoy it. As you all know I would have wanted the ending to be much more brutal, but I feel like the way they colored it and drew it, that its stylized enough to make it just as good.
Plus, I like that now we’re actually beginning to learn more about the other Minutemen in ways that work better than excerpts from Hollis’ book.
At first I was reluctant to read these comics, but now that I’m in them, I’m really starting to get into them.

Deadpool #56
What can I say? At first I thought that having Deadpool without powers would be lame, but it wasn’t one bit. He’s still just as funny as ever! In fact, I might go so far as to say moreso.
I really enjoy his internal monologue now that none of them have powers.

Before Watchmen: Silk Spectre #2
I just want to start by saying that this issue isn’t as fun and childish as the last one, so if you had a problem with that, this takes care of it.
I personally understand why they chose the story they did in this series, but I’m not too much of a fan. Mainly because I know they won’t go as brutal as I feel they need to. The way this issue ends has the potential to start somewhere very dark for the next one, I just hope it does.
But don’t get me wrong, this is a great comic. I don’t like it as much as the Ozymadias one, but its still good. For fans of Watchmen, this is a good origin story.

Before Watchmen: Ozymandias #1
All I want to say is, “Wow.”
This is by far my favorite so far. The art, the story, the narration, the page flow, fuck dude, EVERYTHING.
This comic is next to perfect in my opinion, and what’s more is I never really liked Ozymandias in the original, he just seemed so…cold. But now I’m seeing why he was that way, which is the EXACT reason I’m buying these comics.
But what shines through the most is the art, its breath-taking. Amazing, really.
Do yourselves a favor and BUY this series, now!

Hallraiser #15
Now we’ve started what I think is the last story arc. Shit is getting real now! There are all kinds of blue chains tearing shit up and everyone is going crazy.
There are all sorts of double crossings going on in Hell too, can’t wait to see where this is all going. Where the new army goes and what is going to happen in Hell. Awwwwww, yeah!

Before Watchmen: Nite Owl #1
Well, I think I can speak for the world when I say that the number one thing that brought me to this comic was curiosity. Yes, I’m going to buy ALL of them regardless of which Watchmen I dislike or if I sometimes feel that these are bastardizations of a timeless classic.
But I digress.
Nite Owl has never been my favorite member of the Watchmen, in fact he’s on the bottom of the list, but these back stories seem like a good idea. I was always interested on the specifics of how the torch was passed from Nite Owl to Nite Owl and now I will know.
As far as the first issue is concerned, its…alright, A bit slow moving but not the worst of the Before Watchmen yet. It is what it is, alright.
We’ve got a few more issues of Nite Owl to go and it should pick up, let’s hope.

Deadpool #55
To be honest I was really disappointed with the last story arc in this Deadpool comic but the ending set up all kinds of cool stuff. So to keep it short and simple, I really enjoy how Deadpool comics ALWAYS acknowledge the other Marvel characters, this issue is no exception. They point out that there is a war between the X-man mutants and the Avengers, which I really dug.
Also, I’m here to see how long before Deadpool gets his healing factor back and what kind of antics he gets into because its gone.

This is this week’s main event!!!! Unless you are an Avengers or X-men fan… With this issue we begin the Night of Owls Batman line crossover. We find Bruce at home healing from his fucked experience in the Court of Owls maze. But the Court has no intention of letting him go that easily. A dozen talons storm the Wayne Manor. Bruce tries to fight them off and Alfred is forced to retreat to the Batcave. The Talons break into the Batcave and Bruce dons one of his battle armors. While he is fighting Alfred sends a list of all of the Court’s targets to the various members of the Bat family. This was a great start to this event. Scott Snyder’s stories never disappoint, and the art is always fantastic!!! I will try to get all of the issues of the crossover; hopefully they are all this good!

The Omega Effect continues this week in Punisher #10. This is by far my favorite Marvel cross over in a very long time. The story is just soooooo goooooood. Mark Waid and Greg Rucka are knocking it out of the part. In this issue all the characters get their moment. Even Sargent Cole/Alves, who makes a surprising move in the end of the issue. Punisher, Daredevil, and Spider-man still have the Omega drive and are trying to keep it away from the mega crime organizations. The art by Marco Checchetto continues to astound. I can’t wait to read the end of this cross over!

Carnage USA #5
And with that we end Carnage USA.
I’m going to be Frank here, but I’m kind of glad this series is over. Now before you all freak out hear me out.
This series started out great, but I felt that about half way through there were too many characters to keep up with and the story just felt like it was dragging. This could have been a three issue run, with less symbioses and it would have been a jaw dropping page turner. It wasn’t however, and that made it a little hard to get through at times.
But it was a pretty cool story, buy a trade paper back of it and you’ll see.

Avenging Spider-man #6
This is going to be cool. Granted I’m a little upset that all Spidey got was the setup for this team up, affectionately called The Omega Effect, but it was still good nonetheless.
If you’re expecting a synopsis of the plot go buy the comic yourself, I feel that people should form opinions for themselves, reviews should be almost forum-esque. A place where people can exchange their thoughts on a particular item.
But I digress.
Spider-man, Daredevil and Two Punishers teaming up to royally fuck shit up, what more could you ask for? Did I mention there were ninjas from The Hand in this? Love those guys.

Scarlet Spider #4
Scarlet Spider is slowly becoming one of my favorite comics. Its finally starting to show that Kaine really is an anti-hero. But let’s be real, he’s not as brutal as either The Punisher or Spawn, but for a Spider-man world character its a good place to start.
As usual, I won’t delve into the plot you should be reading it for all that, all you guys need to know is that the Scarlet Spider has begun his first real story arc, in my opinion. I’m hoping that some of the characters they’ve introduced in this issue will be around for a while, just like Spider-man’s villains and allies.
With that said, go out and buy this issue before it becomes back stock and the shops start charging double cover price for it.
